Junior progress 2

Yesterday I made up a temporary subframe fitted up the Triumph box to check chain alignment and to make sure there will be enough room to adjust primary chain once fitted and all looks ok. I will need to space the rear wheel sprocket out by 1/4" or use an offset sprocket, but that is easy to sort out later on.
To celebrate I wheeled Junior outside to try it for size, going to fit just fine, even with me racin wellies on!!

Its the small things that mean so much

Like when you get a genuine Indian 80" Stroker oil scraper in the post with all the bills and bad news. Cheap as chips from US ebay - thanks to Neil for pointing it out!

Junior progress

A bit more time at the Junior yesterday and this morning, tanks and seat offered up to see that it all fits together ok. Triumph gearbox set up on wooden blocks to work out height to keep primary level and get the rear chain run right, I'll make up a temporary bridge fixing to mount it to the frame casting above it so I can then fabricate a lower subframe, this will pick up fixings at the rear engine plates and the hand drilled and tapped bosses on the lower frame rails to stiffen the whole lot up.

Junior rolling chassis

I had an hour or so in the workshop this evening so I put a BSA front end and rear wheel onto the Junior Scout frame. I will need to make up one bearing adapter for the headstock and a couple of spacers for the back wheel but otherwise its all good to go!

19" Dunlop rims front and rear will be fine for the 4.00x19 dirt tyres I plan to go on there.

Next on the todo list is to fit the tanks rear guard and seat, then I have to make up plates to fit the Triumph 4 speed box in the space where the Indian 3 speeder used to sit.

Twin carb Scout Cylinders

These Scout cylinders pictured on Ironwigwam's Indian Race parts pages have been fabricated to allow the inlet ports to come in from the side and take twin carbs, a similar setup could be produced with Chief cylinders.

A bit more legroom

Took the SU off to sort out the timing hole plug which was chewed up, while the carb was off I changed the long belmouth (which sits just where my knee should be!) for an SU embossed pancake filter, had a seat to try it for size and theres a bit more legroom now, also looks so much better!

Scout frame headstock ????

I recently bought a frame headstock casting (on ebay) the seller had it listed as a Scout neck, year unknown. This morning I took some comparison pictures with a badly hacked about 741 frame and a Junior Scout frame - not so sure its Indian? Anyone know what its from?

Steve from The Stockers has just got in touch, turns out its a late 50's Triumph frame neck, cheers Steve

Sport Scout SU conversion

I decided ages ago I wanted to use an SU carb on the Sport Scout Stroker. I got an old carb from Chris Ireland and rebuilt it with new parts and fitted a long bellmouth to it, problem cropped up when I fitted the footboards and clutch pedal I found that the bellmouth hit my knee and would make clutch operation a job for a contortionist!
Just found an aesthetic solution with this SU embossed pancake filter from Burlen Fuel Systems

1933 Chief motor arrives at the Speedshop

The '33 Chief motor arrived on wednesday, all crated up in a solid plywood box, opened up the box and pulled out the motor and laid it on a foam cushion to check it over. All looked fine til I turned it over and found that the rear cylinder has broken at the flange due to vibration during transit, this may have been caused by a hairline crack that seems to have been there for some time (judging by the rust on the faces of the break) . This will be welded back together then I will have both cylinders sleeved and bored to suit std pistons.

Junior Scout Stroker - the leftovers build!

Quite a lot of Scout bits lying around the shed, mainly 741 engine parts, a pair of tanks from Chris Ireland's old Bela a Junior Scout frame from my mate Myles' stash and I have the makings of another Scout. Plan is to use a 4 speed gearbox from a rigid Triumph T100 mated to the Scout motor using a Triplex primary chain driving a T140 clutch basket from a modified Indian front pulley using a T140 crankshaft sprocket

The pitch of the Indian primary train is different from the Triumph one

Some other new arrivals to help the build along, a set of HD WLA flywheels and rods will stroke the motor to 45"

Newly rebuilt oil pump, timing cover, cams and followers
